Whether plans call for a sailing getaway or entertaining at home, you’re sure to find a go-to piece, or two, to amp up your wardrobe in Tory Burch’s Spring/Summer 2017 collection.
As the spring season gets into full swing there’s one trend that is always in fashion—nautical. From sailing motifs to regatta stripes, Tory Burch Spring/Summer 2017 epitomizes the effortless style we love. Burch’s take this season is what she calls “cool prep” with an East-meets-West vibe so often found in beach towns regardless of geography. The entire collection includes a nautical-inspired capsule of navy and white sailing motifs with accents of red, along with some more colorful bohemian luxe ensembles. Perfect for a getaway wardrobe, the collection is super stylish, polished, and inspires the effortless cool, “done, but not fussy” look Burch has become known for.
How to achieve that “I’ve just stepped off my yacht in New England” look
Focusing on four daytime looks to create that vibe so often found in Coastal towns, the palette of navy and white with splashes of red is showcased through a bespoke maritime print that Burch created. It’s highlighted, above, in Outfit 3, as a bow blouse and skort. The sailing motif appears throughout the collection, and while the full head-to-toe sailboat look might seem a bit much for a serious yachtie, it’s such a playful look carried out in sublime fabrics and finishing.
Daytime polished
Another take on the navy jacket (1), this time with white piping and a cropped silhouette. A light and comfortable white cotton poplin shell would work well with denim and with the long “hostess skirts” shown in the rest of the collection. Here, it’s paired with a jaunty cropped, linen burlap pant and completed with Burch’s debut “ruffle sneaker,” which I imagine ending up in the basket on the dock.
Classic Preppy
A fabulous “Ahoy” printed pullover (2) with just a hint of a motif bow blouse paired with an all-time favorite sailor’s pant. Every woman’s wardrobe needs a pair of sailor’s pants—they’re timeless. These might not be very useful for sailing, but how chic does this model look in the high-waisted stretch suiting pair, with rows of white buttons left undone to create a modern flare. The two-tone spectator in a lacquered heel lends a modern polish to this maritime theme.
Beautifully breezy
A day of errand running never looked better (3). A vintage inspired sailboat illustration print covers the saucy skort (also comes in a pant) and blouse. Great with the Tory ruffle sneaker or swap out to the pearl encrusted slides shown on the runway. The Cruise Cardigan is this season’s newest novelty sweater with emblems inspired by New England—lobster, sailboat, compass, lighthouse.
Effortless elegance
The sailor’s pant reinterpreted in a timeless red (4), paired with a dickey sweater is an old-school nod to our school days. This outfit makes a bold statement in red and would look quite beautiful with a heel such as the high-heeled loafer in the photo.
Accessories for a statement
There are so many choices among the bags and shoes in this collection, it’s tough to choose just one. Thankfully, we have our sailcloth duffel bags to carry all these cute options on our next vacay. If your duffel is filled with your weekend foulies and dinghy boots, put this weekender tote on the list.
I might explode—there is a BERMUDA BAG included in this collection. As a child of the 80s, I was a proud, wood-handled Bermuda bag carrying girl. Who can recall this style’s original name? The Papagallo bag! As soon as the new season arrived, I begged my mom to take me to our Papagallo store in the nearby big city so I could see what cute, reversible patterns were on offer. Was it the bright green background with navy blue whale print? Or the one covered in crossed tennis racquets?
The Tory Burch embroidered “East Coast” wallets and totes would be a great statement piece to a simple navy and white outfit. I imagine these will sell out fast, especially among those who grew up summering on the East Coast and now live too far for a weekend away.
Making a smaller sailing statement
Pair your bags and totes with a fun key fob in the lobster, anchor, or a personalized leather.
Maybe you want to play it safe with your outfit, but still inject some maritime moxie? Add a neckerchief with anchors or some motif-embroidered espadrilles.
There is something for everyone who yearns for the classics and never really said goodbye to their Nantucket Reds. This trend is here to stay and with the sailing good life, it shows no end to ever leaving.
The Tory Burch brand is so thorough when it comes to curating a lifestyle, they even make a playlist for each collection. Pour yourself a glass of rosé, sit back, and transport yourself to the nautical lifestyle.
